The Illusionist - A Review

So i rented The Illusionist on dvd and boy what is it entertaining. The movie, which stars Edward Norton, Jessica Biel and Paul Giamatti, is a masterfully woven tale of an illusionist who who pulls off the ultimate illusion. Edward Norton masterminds an illusion which would allow him to be with his love (Jessica Biel) without the hindrance of her inevitable fiance, the prince. The greater part of the film is captured via close up shots and within the confines of a theatre. However, the effects used to portray Norton's illusions are created in such a delicate and fine manner that one cant but help but marvel at them. Norton does a great job of portraying Eisenheim (the illusionist) akin to all his roles, Biel is allright but her performance nothing to marvel at. Giamatti, on the other hand, also happens to perform wonderfully, drawing audiences into his character of the chief inspector. The movie espoused this magical, rustic lining which happended to enclose the everlasting tale of 2 people's love for each other. I liked the movie a lot, and even though the movie starts of slowly, once it picks up (around the 30 minute mark) it grabs a hold of you and does'nt let you go till the end. The only think i did not like was the final resolution, which in my opinion was done a tad bit to hastily but i would recommend the movie to anyone interested in magic, fantasy and a good story.
Growing up and even today i am and always have been fascinated and intrigued by magic and always wanted to learn magic. Television performaces by David Copperfield, David Blaine, Criss Angel and several others have never been missed by me and although i dont know what it is but something about magic has always fascinated me.
